Gmail rocks the iPhone and iPod touch with new features

Wow. So much Googley goodness this week, it’s making our heads spin. Two days ago Google rolls out a wicked good update to its iPhone and iPod touch interface to make all the Google web apps faster and easier to use for mobile Safari users. This release preceded the Stevenote address at Macworld on Tuesday which included the announcement about this week’s firmware update to 1.1.3 and all the cool features contained within. But as Steve focused all the attention on Apple, Google was sneaking in its own updates to make Gmail the king of email on the iPhone and iPod touch. Productivity junkies and GTDers listen up, we are about to lay some serious iPhone kung-fu on you. These moves will give you that extra edge to move your projects forward almost effortlessly. After we learned this trick we felt like we just finished watching The Secret (no, we’re not going to link to it, they’ve made enough money). And if you don’t know what The Secret is, just think positive and read on.

First off, we’d like you to meet Sandy, your new personal assistant. Sandy is absolutely wonderful. She has a perfect memory, doesn’t talk back, and works 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. And best of all, she works for free!

We’ve mentioned each of these in previous posts, but since the total sum is worth more than each of it’s parts, we’ll wrap them all up here in one post. The suite of web apps that many users affectionately refer to as Google Office (much to Ballmer’s double chin chagrin) is now mostly optimized for iPhone. These apps include Gmail, Google Calendar, and Google Reader (rss). We’ve been hearing reports of an optimized version of Google Docs (documents, spreadsheets, presentations) but have yet to see one it materialize. We’ll keep you posted when it happens, or let us know if you see it before we do.
