Not long ago, we introduced you to Evernote, a killer application that syncs your notes between your desktop and your iPhone without any Jailbreak or hacking required. This week, Evernote released a significant upgrade that transforms an already wonderful tool into a must-have for any iPhone or iPod touch owner. The iPhone’s lack of a decent notes application has left most of us scrambling for little workarounds or hacks just to get notes from our devices back to our computer. Evernote accomplishes this feat quite nicely, but honestly, it’s all the other features of Evernote that mitake it absolutely invaluable. We use Evernote every single day and depend heavily on it for the bulk of our writing and research. Evernote excels in the capturing and organization of ideas, and it works for desktop, web, and mobile. Unfortunately, the product is only available in a private beta, but the kind folks at Evernote have given us another pile of invites for our Touchtip readers. Read on to find out more about the newest features Evernote has to offer and how you can get your greedy little hands on an invite to the beta. And if you have already had the chance to try out Evernote, let us know how you like it so far.

We know, we know… the words “great” and “iPhone photography” really don’t belong in the same title, but this new, free utility from Snapture actually does help you take better pictures with your iPhone. Snapture contains several tweaks that improve the photo-taking experience on the iPhone. Some of the features are so obvious you have to wonder how Apple overlooked them to begin with. Snapture is a free download, but it does require a jailbroken iPhone. You can find it in the Installer.app under Utilities. Snapture is one of those “a taste of what’s to come” native apps that hint at some of the great iPhone applications that will be available in the Apple App Store this June. We just discovered Evernote, a very slick and powerful note application that offers terrific features including a mobile interface for your iPhone or iPod touch. Evernote has downloadable client software for your desktop that automatically syncs your notes to your Evernote web account. To access or edit your notes, you point mobile Safari to Evernote and sign in, or use the IMAP interface. Of course, you need to be on EDGE or Wi-fi to use Evernote on your mobile device, but if you go between a desktop app and your iPhone, and use your iPhone camera to capture things you want to remember, then EverNote will blow your socks off. We started using Evernote last week and we can tell you that we are absolutely hooked on it. Unfortunately, Evernote is only currently availabe as a invite-only beta, but lucky you, we happen to be sitting on a pile of invites. Read on to find out how you can be one of the first people to get your hands on Evernote.

We kind of expected Apple to give us the ability to use our iPhones and iPod touches as external storage devices by now, but that has not come to pass. We would love the convenience of dropping files onto the iPhone to transfer them between Macs. Thankfully, Ecom Network has developed a great little utility that lets us do just that, and a little bit more. iPhoneDrive turns your iPhone and iPod touch into an an external drive so you can back up files and transfer them to another Mac. You can also use iPhoneDrive to access media files on your device such as music, videos, photos, and notes.

Google is at it again. After quietly releasing a new iPhone optimized version of its home page and core services, today they release an iPhone and iPod touch version of Picassa Web, the photo management tool. Picassa, in case you are not already familiar with it, is a free desktop-based photo management tool which Google acquired in 2004.
