Hack alert - Teenager codes iPod touch hack, 3rd party apps ensue

A 13 year old claims to have an easy iPod Touch jailbreak. iJailbreak, an automated program that allows third-party applications to run on the iPod Touch, doesn’t work for the iPhone, and is only available for iPod Touch owners that are using Intel-based Macs. Users on MacRumors.com have already reported success with iJailbreak. It’s in beta so use at your own risk. Learn how to download iJailbreak. Let us know if it works for you.

Absolutely works a treat…But you will need to acquire the apps of your choice, change their permissions, then ftp them onto your touch
YMMV
iJailbreak is fantastic! I’ve managed to do it without even doing any of the SSH stuff (which goes above my head at the mo anyway) and I’ve done so without any problems.
However, from reading through the boards, three things that are required/strongly recommended are to;
1) Move the iJailbreak folder into the Applications folder on your mac before running it (otherwise it won’t work at all).
2) Restore your iPod Touch before you jailbreak it by using the “restore” button in iTunes and following the onscreen instructions.
3) After your iPod has booted back up and you’ve given it a name again, uncheck the box that enables iTunes to start up when the iPod is connected and close down iTunes. Some people have reported that iTunes may try to take over mid-jailbreak.
I did all 3 of those and it works a charm. A load more apps appear in the launcher application after you install the community sources (listed in the install list).
Launcher.app also includes the ‘Touch Calendar Fix’ listed under “Tweaks” which means you don’t even have to edit any files to get your add button in the Calendar.app.
Neato!
Hack was easy…
BUT the apps are not optimized for the iPod Touch so it gets warm. The Applications crash for me when in heavy use. Mail.app dies when retrieving mail if internet connection is lost for a second.
Lastly, having all these extra applications running in the background causes the standard applications to sometimes crash. I was watching Full Metal Jacket in MP4 format “never had issues before” it closed on me for no reason & then the iPod Touch rebooted.
All in all with the slight setbacks, the program is still a Genius work in BETA form. Recommend to everyone & hope more people will get involved & try to fix the minor issues, before getting to extra’s.
