Steve Jobs responds to iPhone’s early adopters price woes

Steve Jobs - iGod

“That’s technology”, Jobs simply replied in an interview with USAToday when asked about the lowered prices of the iPhone angering customers who have recently purchased one. Ouch. Steve’s a multi-billionaire. Most iPhone users stopped feeding their babies to buy an iPhone after falling victim to his marketing charisma. He could have been a bit more tactful. But then again, Jobs does have a point. All technology is eventually commoditized, well, at least most of it (don’t expect to find data centers hanging next to the razors in 7-11 anytime soon). Eventually iPhones will be almost free, but that won’t get you back the extra 200 bucks you shelled out for an iPhone two weeks ago. Such is the economics of technology. Sigh.

[...] looks like Steve Jobs has had some time to think about his earlier words of tough love. In an open letter on Apple’s web site, he writes: … we need to do a better job taking [...]

Actually the lowering of the price was in some ways calculated, oh yes it was, just like a freebie used to entice people to come in, this is all calculated if not from the get-go once the problem came up.

I am not completely sure that they where going to do this from the start, but from a marketing point of view this was easy and a win-win situation, people will praise like good little religious followers they are, and apple gets more people to come in and buy even more things for a as little as a 100 dollar in store or online coupon.

The funny part of all this is that even though a lot of people will be happy at what was done, only a percentage of them will go thru the trouble of actually doing it, but even those who do not do it will feel good because for the sole reason that they did it.

This is in marketing one of the cheapest way to get people off your back and spend more feeling satisfied.

Good for apple they still have a great marketing team. I like the Steve Job letter very well crafted buy the legal and PR team. Or did you really think he did it.
