iPhone hack - Add native IM to your iPhone with Apollo IM

The first native IM app for the iPhone has just gotten better. The developers of Apollo IM have listened to the iPhone community and updated their product with more features and a brand new UI. Apollo IM now supports AIM, .Mac, ICQ, and MSN. To get the free Apollo IM client on your iPhone, simply follow these easy steps.
- Download Installer.app and follow the installation instructions
- Open Installer.app on your iPhone
- Select Community Sources, then install
- Select Apollo 1.0, then install

Any idea if this will work with an iPod Touch or not?
Native apps don’t work with the iPod touch yet. The iPod touch’s firmware does not show up as an option inside of the Installer.app. However, this may change. We’re working on it.
after i intalled apolo I get this message. Apollo requires the “BSD subsistem” package. What is that?
FOR SOME REASON, AFTER INSTALLING BSD AND APOLLO, MY AIM DOESN’T WORK. IT WILL LOG ON, BUT I WILL AUTOMATICALLY GO BACK TO THE HOME PAGE. CAN YOU PLEASE HELP ME OUT. ?
sorry if this is obvious, but will using this application come out of your SMS text messages if you don’t have unlimited?
i’m looking for a way to IM without using my SMS since i only have the 200 plan, is there something out there?
@ newb: No, it won’t come out of your SMS. This uses either your data or wifi.
hi newb,
no apollo uses the IM protocol which is different than SMS, so you won’t burn your texting minutes using it. however, this is a native app which requires hacking your iphone and there are some issue with doing that now that apple has released firmware v1.1.1.
i recommend you try one of the web-based IM tools like Meebo which works with many of the IM clients out there.

Can you guys make it work for firmware 1.1.3!!! I think this is the coolest program for a jailbroken ipod touch. It basically turns your ipod into a computer. I loved talking to my friends on it.
This would be awesome if you guys could get it to work!

Have the same issue but came across an answer on modmyiphone forum, posted by blue_wind. The posting is:
backup your /etc/hosts
and edit this file with text editor on your PC. Add this red color text and save then put it back.
(red text is everything below localhost):
##
# Host Database
#
# localhost is used to configure the loopback
# interface when the system is booting. Do not
# change this entry.
##
127.0.0.1 localhost
255.255.255.255 broadcasthost
::1 localhost

65.54.239.20 messenger.hotmail.com
65.54.239.21 gateway.messenger.hotmail.com

reboot the iphone.
Please, note that I have not tried this yet.
@Ali
Tried now, seems to work
Everytime I try to log into my aim sn on either mobile chat or apollo it logs in but immediately my screen turns black and brings me back to the main menu screen of my iphone.
Any ideas on what is happening and what i should do?
I have an Iphone unlocked with T-Mobile
Everytime I try to log in it always says could not connect to authentication server: could resolve host name
Yes, the entry in the hosts-file made the connect
Thanks man
When I open ‘Installer’, I don’t see a icon for ‘Community Sources’ (neither under Categories or Sources. How do I fix this?
Thanks in advance.
