This little known web site is an absolute gem for any iPhone user looking for customizable ringtones that are easy, fast, and free.
Audiko.net is a web-based tool that lets you create ringtones from a variety of free sources. Like most ringtone utilities, you can make a ringtone from your own music by uploading it to the web site where you can then slice and dice your tune to get the exact ringtone you want. You can also create ringtones from other web sources just by entering the url to the song. Audiko also supports YouTube urls so you can extract any audio section of a YouTube video and use that as your ringtone. And since Audiko lets users share their ringtones on the web site, you can select from a huge database of ringtones that have already been created by the community.
Audiko’s home page offers a search tool so you can quickly locate a ringtone that has already been created, saving you time from having to make one yourself. Aside from search, you can browse the database by looking at the most popular artists for ringtones, or by which ones were most recently added. There are tons of ringtones to choose from in a broad range of genres and artists.
To create ringtones at Audiko, be sure to use your desktop browser because the site doesn’t work on mobile Safari due to it’s use of Flash, although the ringtones work just fine on the iPhone or iPod touch. To create a ringtone, you simply upload a track from your personal library, or enter the url of a song on the internet. Audiko will overlay your music on a timeline where you can easily select the section of the track that you’d like to use as your ringtone. You can also set the beginning or end of your clip to fade in or out.
Once you save your ringtone, you can download it in iPhone format where you can drag it to your iTunes ringtones folder and then sync your iPhone. Audiko.net also offers every ringtone as an iPhone tone, an mp3, or in formats for older cell phone models. There’s even a nice integration with barcodes that you scan with your camera, then download the ringtone. Sadly, this feature is not currently supported by iPhone.

The Audiko website is GOLD. Particularly for us Canadian iPhone users. Right now, there is no option to buy or create ringtones. But Audiko allows me to create a ringtone. I did it in SECONDS, and it works perfectly.
This is a great website. Found what I needed just by searching so I can’t speak for the other utilities. Clips are loud and clear. Better that what comes with the 3G iPhone – hands down.
