Alert! iPhone Jailbreaks beware of firmware update 1.1.2

Do not update firmware

Tomorrow marks the date that the iPhone lands in the U.K. taking with it firmware update 1.1.2. This means a firmware update for all iPhones coming soon to an iTunes near you. If you proudly show off your Jailbroken iPhone with cool 3rd party apps and customization, you need to beware. With the last firmware update, Apple disabled 3rd party apps and even bricked unlocked iPhones.

To keep your hacked iPhone safe, we recommend that you do not update your iPhone to 1.1.2 until hackers release a workaround. You won’t be missing much in this update which contains more languages and access to the Cloud Wi-Fi hotspots in the U.K.

I heard it also has a fix for the tiff exploit in Safari – which is gonna cause headaches galore. It’ll be interesting to see how the next hole is found or made…

  • kyle

is it going to update automatically with itunes or will it ask me first

@kyle – iTunes will ask you if you want to update your firmware. You can accept or decline it.

I have a jailbroken Touch. If I restore it before updating the firmware, will I be ok? (Not even sure if the upgrade applies to the Touch.)

  • http://www.touchtip.com Dean

@turbo – Hold off on restoring it for now. There is a jailbreak in the wild right now that appears to work if you run it on your 1.1.1 touch before you update to 1.1.2. In a nutshell, the 1.1.1 jailbreaks worked by exploiting the TIFF hole which 1.1.2 patches. So this new jailbreak needs to be applied before the TIFF hole is patched, then you can update to 1.1.2. This jailbreak is not ready for prime time yet, but stay tuned because we’ll let you know when there’s an easy way to apply it.

got a 1.1.2 iphone in states last dec, got a guy to do a “hardware” hack to it so that i can use it in china. he put in a thing that looks like a sim card and glued it to my existing sim card. now it works. but…does that mean he made my iphone back to a 1.1.1 and i can install 3rd party apps?
