World’s Youngest iPhone Developer

World's Youngest iPhone Developer, Lim Ding Wen

Apple has lifted the veil in front of the software development warehouse to coincide with the unprofessionalism that the “i” technology has perpetuated. Instead of simply relying on expert developers to do everything with entertainment and technology average people are taking the reins in a new attempt at DIY spirit. The iPhone allows for users to create their own software and then submit it for consideration and sale through iTunes, then receiving a percent of the profits. This sent programmers, software engineers, and computer specialists clamoring on their free time to create a new interesting application that might make them hit one of the top App Store lists. These professionals have wracked their brain to find a winning idea, using years of academic and professional knowledge. One developer has tapped into some youthful energy to bring some of the most innovative applications in regular circulation. This type of thinking it easy for him, mostly because he is nine.

Doodle Kids -iPhone app

Lim Ding Wen, a Singapore resident, has now clocked in as the youngest developer for the iPhone to date. His most recent construction, Doodle Kids, is a virtual canvas that lets users draw using their touch screen and then connect to their Apple TV. It uses a fairly in depth Etch-A-Sketch formula that will bring even the oldest player to nostalgic smiles. To clear the screen you simply shake your iPhone, which then uses the motion sensors to get rid of the image. The application itself relies on simple logic that aids to its success. For example, instead of having an internal picture saving function you are encouraged to just use the iPhone’s screen shot function to shove your creation into the photo file. It has been incredibly successful in its short release period, but this is only one of the twenty programs he has developed in his premature career. As of February 10th the program hit number nine on the iPhone free application list on iTunes, maintaining a superb three and a half star rating from users. When you read some of the positive feedback you quickly realize that many of them are from young children, which are an appropriate age since they are Lim Ding Wen’s peers.

It has been widely reported that the child prodigy is competent in six different programming languages, which is a kick in the face to all college students who have trouble making short cartoons in Flash. His father does hail from the software community, but there has never been a success story like this in the history of game development. Currently he is working on a space platformer, which will be a throwback to the classic gameplay of Space Invaders.
