Turbo charge iPhone’s Safari with 3rd party apps

iPhone bookmarklets

There has been a lot of buzz lately surrounding iPhone hacks to add 3rd party apps to your iPhone. And hacking your iPhone may come with some risks like canceling out your warranty, or breaking when Apple updates the firmware. One no-risk method of adding functionality to your iPhone, specifically Safari, is through the use of bookmarklets. These are tiny pieces of javascript that you bookmark in Safari to add some really useful features to your iPhone’s web capabilities. There are literally thousands of bookmarklets available, but we have a few favorites to share with you here.

  1. Find in this page - the ability to find a word or phrase on the current page, results are highlighted
  2. Dictionary - find a word’s definition on Dictionary.com
  3. Rotten Tomatoes - look up reviews for movies and video games
  4. AllMusic - look up your favorite music artist
  5. YubNub - easy access to your YubNub commands (this is our favorite, find out why)
  6. Find more bookmarklets at Bookmarklets.com

To use these, simply drag the links above into the Safari bookmarks bar on your desktop computer and then sync them to your iPhone via iTunes. Then tap on the bookmarklet from your iPhone.
