SugarSync for iPhone will sync everything but the kitchen sink

SugarSync originally launched in March of 2008 as a universal data syncing solution for users looking to keep data updated on multiple computers. Today marks the public release SugarSync’s native iPhone application so now you can access files on your PC or Mac, directly from your iPhone. SugarSync supports all file types already supported by the iPhone and offers blazingly fast syncing capability, even over EDGE.
With SugarSync you can start a Word document on your PC at work, then finish it at home on your Mac, then do final proof-reading and editing on your iPhone or iPod touch. All without having to email your file around, connect to VPN, or save to external drives.
To be clear, data syncing is very different from cloud data storage services like Box.net or Xdrive which are really just hosted storage and backup solutions. These solutions don’t do any syncing which means you have to log into the web site to access files. With SugarSync you get secure data backup along with true syncing, so changes to your files on one computer will automatically appear on all the others your are syncing to. Requested files are pushed to you on demand using SugarSync’s secret sauce, a very sophisticated push technology which is at the very core of their service.
SugarSync’s iPhone app allows you to move, delete, and rename files remotely. Any change you make on the iPhone is immediately pushed out to all the computers your are syncing with. And we do mean immediately. SugarSync’s secret sauce will have all your computers updated within a single second on EDGE, even faster on wi-fi. Your computers don’t even have to be turned on to sync to them. Any file changes are saved by SugarSync then pushed to your computers next time you turn them on.
Mobile device now becomes truly a ‘computer in your pocket’. Browse all the data, files, view, office docs, and listen to music.
You can also use SugarSync to share files with friends, family, and colleagues. You can share any size file from anywhere. This is done by clicking “Send Files”, which actually sends your contact an email containing a secure link. Clicking on the link then initiates the web browser’s download manager to transfer the file from your computer to your contact’s computer or iPhone. Nice.
Every SugarSync account comes with web access so you can even grab files from any computer without having to install the SugarSync client. This means you can use SugarSync on any operating system with a web browser, including Linux. Anything you can do on the native client you can also do in the web interface although the native application is faster and easier to use.
Also released today along with the iPhone app is a new, intuitive one-click file versioning feature that allows you to revert to any of the five latest versions of a file. Very handy. You can even recover deleted files if necessary. And the web interface now sports a feed of all recent account activity, enabling quick access to the most recently modified and shared files as well as a quick-launch to any synchronized computer.
The SugarSync iPhone app is available as a free download from the App Store and comes with a 45-day free trial for the 10 GB service and no credit card is required. This 10 GB service will cost about $3 a month after the trial, but you can get more storage for additional costs. For now, get the app and try out the service free.
