MotionX Poker - An instant classic iPhone game

Sometimes greatness can be achieved by combining elements from tried-and-true classics to create unexpected results. Think of the classic martini starting out as a glass of gin with an accidental splash of dry vermouth and history was made. Or the refreshing mash-up of vanilla ice cream with root beer for the perfect float. Fullpower Technologies has quite possibly created a new classic game by morphing poker with the best elements of Yahtzee to create MotionX Poker for the iPhone and iPod touch.

In MotionX Poker, as in Yahtzee, you have five dice and three rolls per turn. The dice display playing cards, and the goal in this game is to get the best poker hand in three rolls. Only a select number of cards from the deck are used, so poker rules are adjusted to account for the probability of certain hands. For instance, in MotionX Poker a straight actually beats a full house because the odds of getting a straight are much lower here.

This might sound suspiciously similar to another classic pub game called poker dice, because it is poker dice. The makers of MotionX Poker made a mash-up of a mash-up by taking poker dice to a new level using the best elements of the iPhone. The game takes advantage of the iPhone’s accelerometer, along with beautiful 3D graphics, to deliver a highly satisfying and addictive casual game that is unique only to the Apple mobile device.

The game is gorgeous, featuring a hand-painted style along with a rich, music soundtrack. To roll the dice you simply give a gentle shake to the iPhone or iPod touch to watch the dice bounce around the game board as if hitting the sides of your display screen. MotionX’s use of the accelerometer along with a built-in physics engine create a uniquely realistic effect. iPhone users will also experience a vibration as the dice rattle around the game board.

As you progress through the game you earn rewards such as new dice and gems. You also build your winnings to access high-roller tables where you can play for higher stakes and even more rewards. This aspect of the game keeps it very interesting and focused on getting to the next level.

MotionX Poker is a single player game where you always play against the house (in this case, the computer). We’d love to see multiplayer and online leader boards in a future version. For now, MotionX Poker delivers a casual gaming experience that will delight and entertain you for hours.
