Jailbreak your iPhone or iPod touch with a single tap

This new one tap hack is so easy a caveman can do it. It opens your iPhone or iPod touch and installs Installer.app so you can add any 3rd party apps of your choice. This is the by far the easiest way to add 3rd party apps to your iPhone or iPod touch. Here’s how.
- Point your iPhone or iPod touch to jailbreakme.com (the link is below)
- Read the instructions, scroll down, and tap the button
- Now wait up to 30 seconds for the slide-to-unlock screen to appear
- After you slide-to-unlock, then you will see a new Installer.app icon on your home screen.
Go to Jailbreakme.com to hack your device now.

doesn’t work…ipod touch
Posted on Oct 29th, 2007 at 10:18 am by Cadi
hi cadi, what firmware are you running on your touch? is it 1.1.1?
Posted on Oct 29th, 2007 at 10:35 am by John K
yes 1.1.1
Posted on Oct 29th, 2007 at 10:44 am by Cadi
the appsnapp faq suggests rebooting your device if it gets stuck on the “activate now” screen. this worked perfectly for my ipod touch.
Posted on Oct 29th, 2007 at 11:07 am by John K
Worked on my iPod Touch. Safari crashed, it asked for my password (I chose to have a password on it) and froze up. I just pushed the power button and turned it back on, slide to unlock (password for me again) and ::huge gasp of excitement:: there was an installer icon!!

Doesn’t work with my touch 1.1.1
Posted on Oct 29th, 2007 at 1:01 pm by dan
If I Jailbreak can I always return it to the factory settings? I want to make sure I can get it back to the way it was if I need to.
Posted on Oct 29th, 2007 at 2:37 pm by Chris
@Chris - This will NOT brick your device. The worst case you will have to restore it in iTunes.
Posted on Oct 29th, 2007 at 2:55 pm by dlucas
Works well on iPod Touch but have not found a decent game worth installing. This is important as we have poor wifi coverage in our town so an installed game is MORE important for the Touch than the iPhone - any recommendations please - or I might as well take the installer off. How about a list of must have non web apps
thanks

The installs that i do aren’t for working for some odd reason. What am i doing wrong?
Posted on Oct 29th, 2007 at 5:01 pm by Alex
Nevermind i got them working. What about ringtones, what program should i use to get my own?
Posted on Oct 29th, 2007 at 6:07 pm by Alex
Thanks dlucas. but will I break the warrenty and if i restore will apple be able to tell?
Posted on Oct 29th, 2007 at 6:45 pm by Chris
@Chris - No this won’t void your warranty, and Apple couldn’t tell anyways. The only thing you’ll need to worry about is if Apple releases another firmware update that kills your 3rd party hacks (like the 1.1.1 update did). If you do apply this AppSnapp hack, don’t update your firmware unless Touchtip tells you it’s okay. It’s that simple. And the worse case scenario is that you’ll have to reset your device with iTunes, but your warranty will be safe.

Ok, it worked for me - jailbroken. but now how do I get the iPhone apps without owning an iPhone
Posted on Oct 30th, 2007 at 5:22 am by Chris
@Chris - Tap the Installer.app icon on your home screen. You will see a list of all the available apps for the firmware you are running. Install any apps you choose. Here is an excellent follow-up for everyone who has recently jailbreaked their device: You’ve got iPhone or iPod touch jailbreak! What next?
Posted on Oct 30th, 2007 at 6:06 am by dlucas
Wow, excellent. Thanks.
Posted on Oct 30th, 2007 at 6:18 am by Chris
Ok, some apps to explore. But all I want is an email client and I cannot find one. Any idea where I can get one? And what apps are you using for your iPod Touch?
Posted on Oct 30th, 2007 at 6:27 am by Chris
@Chris - I don’t know of any good 3rd party mail apps for iPod touch, but the IMAP version of Gmail is pretty awesome. You might give that a try. We posted it last Friday, Gmail with IMAP.
Posted on Oct 30th, 2007 at 6:40 am by dlucas
Cool. Thanks. But how about the iPhone email client? isn’t there a way to get that?
Posted on Oct 30th, 2007 at 1:53 pm by Chris
@Chris - No, I don’t know of a way to get the native iPhone mail app running on the touch. In fact, I don’t even think there is a 3rd party email app available via the Installer.app. You’re pretty much stuck with web mail using Safari on your touch, at least for now.
Posted on Oct 30th, 2007 at 1:56 pm by Dean
How much space does it all take up on the ipod?
Posted on Oct 30th, 2007 at 1:58 pm by deano
i installed it and everything but nothin workss, i thought u could download things onto ur itouch but u cant so wats the point of havein the installer
Posted on Oct 30th, 2007 at 2:01 pm by br1
@deeno - Installer.app doesn’t take up much space on your iPod touch, but each 3rd party app you install will take a little space. The more you add, the more space you’ll need. Most of these apps are tiny, though. I suggest you add a few then check your memory before adding more.
@br1 - Did you reboot your iPod touch? If so, you should see the Installer.app icon on your home screen, as long as you did the Jailbreak as instructed.

I have read this elsewhere. Jailbreak breaks youtube on the iPod Touch. I can play some of the videos I have bookmarked but none of the other videos.
Posted on Oct 30th, 2007 at 4:22 pm by Chris
What program can i use to get ringtones? Or is there any program for it?
Posted on Oct 30th, 2007 at 7:21 pm by Alex
ya my you tube isn’t working either , any fixes without uninstalling installer.app
Posted on Oct 30th, 2007 at 7:29 pm by kyle
Is anyone else experiencing lethargic and flaky iPhone behavior after Jailbreaking? At first I thought it might be related to the Sendsong app pushing the modified ringtones list, but after restoring my iPhone to factory settings with fw1.1.1 and jailbreaking via this new hack, it is still crashing when I use Safari, view my Contact list, etc.
Posted on Oct 30th, 2007 at 9:44 pm by Cyrano
i added Send Song. So I clicked it after installing it and there is an option to Send to Ringtone…blipblip. There it was the song I selected is now a Ringtone
Posted on Oct 30th, 2007 at 10:01 pm by SteveO
@Cyrano - Inside the Installer.app there is a section listed called ‘1.1.1 Tweaks’ which contains a Safari patch. That might help you.
Posted on Oct 30th, 2007 at 10:29 pm by Dean
Having installed the jailbreak, works fine… But once apps installed try booting it, comes up for 1 sec then disappears… Any ideas???
Posted on Oct 31st, 2007 at 5:23 am by Itouch suffering
@Cyrano - my touch was like this until I powered it off totally and restarted.
@Itouch suffering - install the BSD tools and the oenssh packages via installer and restart. Sorted eactly that problem for me

Tried the install, never did anything, rebooted the iPhone, nothing. Now go back to install AppSnapp and it shuts down my safari….any suggestions?

Got it after a full restore. Works great!
Posted on Oct 31st, 2007 at 2:08 pm by BlackHeart
what do i do after i install all the apps? how do i get them to work?
Posted on Oct 31st, 2007 at 3:29 pm by Freddy Myers
If Apple releases a new firmware update, can I restore my iPhone and THEN get the update, or will that mess things up? Also, will I be able to re-install AppSnapp after I’ve done all this?
Posted on Nov 1st, 2007 at 7:30 am by neveralone
I thought there were more apps available? The ones listed in installer.app is a very small list. Am I missing something?
Posted on Nov 1st, 2007 at 1:11 pm by RBasil
P.S. Yes, I have already installed the Community Sources package.
Posted on Nov 1st, 2007 at 1:17 pm by RBasil
Nevermind, it seems you have to install the BSD tools BEFORE the community tools on the Touch. Everything is working now.

The jailbreak worked well on my 16G iPod Touch, but I was expecting to be able to change my icons and screen background. How do I do that?
Posted on Nov 2nd, 2007 at 8:49 am by tkind
Well it worked, and I could add apps, most didn’t work, Books did, but then I couldn’t get it recognised by any of my Macs?
And boy is it now sluggish!!! All because I wanted to edit Calendar!!!!
Have reinstalled the Mobile Apps and iTunes on my iBook still no joy
What gives? I cannot restore or synch
Why did I jail break before I synched? At least I would have had some music on it!
Not quite a brick but not far off!!
Help!!!
Caveat Hackor!!!!

how do you uninstall jailbreak on my itouch?
Posted on Nov 4th, 2007 at 12:53 am by william
I have installed jailbreak onto my iPod Touch and it is AWESOME. I also installed the open community app (from the jailbreak apps page) and I now have 3 whole pages of apps on my ipod. I have also customized it. Thank you to the developers, excellent program and no hacking required.
Posted on Nov 4th, 2007 at 8:54 am by Rapo
Further to my earlier comment, my iPod was running 1.1.1 before I started. As I live in the UK I have to wait another 5 days to get the iPhone, therefore some of the apps don’t work but nearly all do. If you own a new iPod you must try jailbreak. Can’t wait to try the jailbreak software on my iPhone as well.

You’ll need to downgrade your touch to 1.1.1 first, then run this jailbreak. You should read this how-to guide to see the steps involved.

Posted on May 29th, 2008 at 6:59 am by kelsey
@kelsey - You have two options…. One, jailbreak your iPod touch. If something goes wrong, use iTunes to reset your device back to it’s default state. Two, don’t jailbreak and wait for the official firmware update coming soon from Apple which will allow you to install officially sanctioned applications from Apple’s AppStore, launching in June. If you fear your parents’ wrath and don’t want to feel the acid, you should go for option two and wait for the AppStore.
