iPhone tip - All hail the mighty YubNub!

YubNub

YubNub is by far one of the most useful web services we’ve tried on the iPhone. It was good on the desktop web, but an absolute godsend on the iPhone. YubNub translates abbreviated commands into complex web queries. For instance, ‘gim’ is a Google Image Search. Typing ‘gim spears vma’ will yield pictures of Brittney Spears’ comeback train wreck performance at the VMAs last night. Think of how many taps you would need to do this without YubNub. There are absolutely thousands of YubNub commands to choose from and you can even create your own. Here’s a few of our faves:

  • scro - scrapes the ads off of Google search results pages
  • flint - searches Flickr by tags, but sorts by interestingness
  • froogle - uses Google to do price comparisons
  • stock - gets the current stock price of any symbol
  • revs - does a reverse phone look up on a number

Now here is a handy iPhone tip you will freakin’ love! Bookmark the YubNub homepage so you can access it quickly. Then very time you use YubNub, make your first command this: ‘cmd‘. This opens a YubNub command line in a frame along the bottom of your browser so you won’t have to go back to the home page every time you want to use a YubNub command.

Go start exploring the world of YubNub now.

This is my new favorite site! Takes a little while to get used to but it’s worth it.
