Improve your chances of finding your lost iPhone or iPod touch

SendMeHome Lost and Found

The form factor of the iPod touch and the iPhone make those little suckers pretty darn slippery in your pocket. We have to wonder how many of them have been lost since last year, and even more importantly, how many have been found and returned to their rightful owner? SendMeHome, a new service that launched this week, can help your lost items find their way back into your hands.

SendMeHome is a simple idea. You register any item you want into the database and the site issues each item a uniqie ID number. You then tag the ID to the item along with the SendMeHome web address. If your lost item is found by an honest person, they can go to the site and enter the ID after which a connection is made to you. The service is anonymous and free of charge, and you can register an unlimited number of items. You can print your own labels if you wish, or the site offers adhesive labels which you can purchase for a small fee.

We’re thinking that a combination of laser etching and a SendMeHome ID is the ideal solution for permanently tagging your iPhone or iPod touch for a little insurance against loss or theft. Studies have proven that lost items which are marked with identification are more likely to be turned in by the finder. These tags can also aid police in locating you if your property was stolen.

Tagging items with a SendMeHome ID is much easier than having to write your name, address, and phone number on each item. Plus, SendMeHome offers privacy protection because the IDs are completely anonymous. The assigned IDs are valid forever, and if your contact information changes you can easily update your secure profile at SendMeHome.

Since SendMeHome is a free service, you can tag any item regardless of its value because you never know what you might lose. No, you can’t tag your virginity. And if you lose your mind, well, there are professionals to help you with that. Now if I could only find my car keys…
