Google sweetens the search results for iPhone and iPod touch

Google mobile search

While most of us were sleeping last night Google quietly released a small collection of tweaks that vastly improve search results for iPhone and iPod touch users. These changes go to show you how minor user interface adjustments can make a huge difference in usability. In this case, the tweaks demonstrate Google’s understanding of the mobile user’s intent when searching for locations or businesses.

Aside from general layout improvements for mobile Safari, the most significant changes can be found in the universal or local search results. The search result now contains inline links for the listing’s telephone number and driving directions, and a map preview will also appear in the universal results. These changes reflect what most mobile users are looking for when searching a location or business, and makes that information just a couple of taps away.
