Free digital music channels coming soon to iPhone and iPod touch

Previously here on Touchtip we wondered why Apple Snubs Marconi by omitting basic radio from the iPhone and iPod touch. On January 21st, FlyTunes comes to the rescue with a new digital radio service specifically designed for the mobile Apple devices. If FlyTunes makes good on their promise to deliver thousands of high quality music channels, we’ll be very happy listeners. FlyTunes will be free, without limitations and no additional hardware to buy. Is this the beginning of the end for Sirius and XM?
Sign up to be sent an email reminder when FlyTunes is released and you’ll also be automatically entered into a drawing for a free iPhone. The FlyTunes web site also has a little Flash demo of the service which seems to indicate that FlyTunes will work online and offline. We’re not quite sure how it’ll work when not connected to Wi-Fi, but we are eager to find out later this month.

Will flytunes work with jailbroken iPods?
We’re not sure if this will work on jailbroken iPods. However, the demo seems to indicate this works with mobile Safari, probably using Quicktime. If so, it should work fine on your hacked iPod touch, as long as Safari and Quicktime work. If FlyTunes is a 3rd party app requiring jailbroken iPods in order to install it, then you should be fine, for sure.
Its now Jan 25, and its still not available!
FlyTunes has been released today (the 25th), but due to overwhelming demand, they are granting access to groups of 5,000 users at a time, based on when you signed up. So, first come, first serve. If anyone out there tries it out before we do, let us know how you like it.
