Doom, Spore, and more, coming to the iPhone and iPod touch

Doom iPhone

Get the Mountain Dew ready because soon you will be up all night, tea-bagging deathmatch opponents on your iPhone or iPod touch playing the latest mobile games from id Software, the makers of Doom and Quake. In a post on Slashdot, id Software’s John Carmack spoke highly of the iPhone SDK and hinted toward native iPhone games from his company. This news comes less than a week after Electronic Arts announced their commitment to Apple’s new mobile platform for gaming and even showed off a demo of Spore, Wil Wright’s highly anticipated game, running natively on an iPhone.

This week, Gameloft throws their hat into the ring with an announcement that they plan to develop over 15 new game titles for iPhone and iPod touch. This is shaping up to be a great year for mobile games, and we’re not talking Snake or Minesweeper here. No, we’re gonna see a flurry of interesting games that push mobile gaming to new levels using Apple’s core animation, high resolution screen, mobility, touch screen input, and the iPhone’s accelerometer to detect motion.
