Review: Motz Tiny Wooden Speaker

Sometimes the smallest objects can surprise us the most. In the beginning, the object may look dull and unpromising, but it can prove to be exactly the opposite of that. When that happens, the mind becomes surprised and the conclusions that were based solely on appearances shatter. The Motz Tiny Wooden Speaker is one of those miniscule objects that do exactly that. Although it appears to be so small, it smacks anyone who questions its integrity with its performance.

Design Aspects:

Naming products can be a tough thing and sometimes naming them oblivious to the fact of what they are makes absolutely no sense. In this occasion, the Motz Tiny Wooden Speaker is right on point. This petite speaker lives up to its name, tiny. However, don’t let that fool you of its capabilities. The Motz Tiny Wooden Speaker’s texture on the body matches the wooden naming scheme and the top of the speaker’s acorn texture also sells the point.

Speaker compared to an iPhone 4.

Compared to an iPhone 4, the speaker is super small. It barely takes up any space. It really matches the size of an acorn. Pyramid Distribution will amaze anyone who tries this speaker because of its size.

Controls on the bottom.

On the bottom of the Motz Tiny Wooden Speaker are the controls for the radio. Itched around the sides are forward, backward, volume up, and volume down controls. The button stick is responsible for controlling the speaker.

LED indicator.

If this speaker didn’t have an LED indicator, it would be a nuisance to figure out if it’s on or not or if it’s working. Fortunately, the Motz speaker has a small LED indicator on one side that does its job.

3.5mm port.

On the other end of the speaker is a 3.5mm port. The 3.5mm to 3.5mm cable can be plugged into here or a 3.5mm headphone jack can also fit. This port is also used to charge the Motz speaker.

Top of the speaker.

The dark brownish speaker top is where the music pours out of. There are a few holes, which let the audio out, that surround the area where the key chain attaches to.

Extras:

Features:

Wow is the least extreme word to describe how well this little speaker performs. Looking at the size, which is similar to the size of an acorn, it’s outstanding how loud this speaker can get. The Motz Tiny Wooden Speaker is probably one of the loudest speakers for its size. Not only does it get loud, it also keeps the audio quality decent without distorting it too much after hitting a higher volume. The 3.5mm port makes it possible to plug it into any device that has the 3.5mm headphone port with the provided cable. This simple way of making the speaker work allows it to have use across multiple devices. Using it with an iPad or another tablet to watch a movie or play games is simply marvelous. An added feature, as a result of how small the speaker is, makes it portable. Throw it in a backpack, purse, or a pocket and use it on the go.

Besides the Motz Tiny Wooden Speaker being an auxiliary loudspeaker, it is also an FM radio. The radio works when one end of the 3.5mm cord is connected to the Tiny Wooden Speaker while the other end is not connected to another device.  Afterwards, the wire acts like an antenna and can be used to listen to radio stations. This is when the controls at the bottom come in the equation; they are used to tune into a station and the Tiny Wooden Speaker’s volume can also be raised with the controls. Unfortunately, the controls don’t work when the Motz is used as an auxiliary speaker.

The LED indicator shows when it’s either in auxiliary mode or radio mode. Not only does it indicate the mode, it also tells when charging the speaker is complete; which is more significant than the other reason it’s there for.

As for the battery life, it takes around two hours to charge and can last days on standby. The advertised battery life on auxiliary is five hours but that depends on how loud it’s being used. As for the FM radio, it can last much longer if headphones are used rather than using the speakers.

Durability:

The Motz Tiny Wooden Speaker is made out of handicraft material and wood. The key chain clip is the weak aspect about the speaker but it shouldn’t break on most people. Either way, it’s one tough and miniscule speaker. Of course it can’t survive it being smashed with a hammer but it should hold up to the minor bumps or shocks.

Wrap Up:

Pros:

  • Miniscule size; portable
  • Universal use (with the 3.5mm cable)
  • Can get super loud
  • Auxiliary speaker and a FM radio
Cons:

  • Controls don’t work in auxiliary mode
