Review: id America Gasket Brushed Aluminum Case

The greatest innovations man has “invented” have come from nature and majority of them have been the results of mistakes. The modern airplanes are based off birds and man’s eagerness to take flight. Sometimes what we need already exists but we just need to change it a little. Great design is readily available but not on every platform. This case takes a great design from another machine and implements it into a case for the iPhone. The id America Gasket Brushed Aluminum case is a recreation of the design on a head gasket.

Cost: $29.95

Package Contents:

  • Gasket Brushed Aluminum Case
  • Front and Rear Screen Film
  • Squeegee
  • Microfiber Cleaning Cloth

Design Aspects:

The id America Gasket case is unique from a design prospective compared to most other snap on cases. The Gasket comes in silver, gold, bronze, gray, black, and blue. Although the case may come in blue, it may not always look blue. It mostly depends on how much light there isl; it can look purple at times even though it’s a blue case.

Rear view.

One of the distinct features of this case is the back. Anyone who doesn’t know what this case is based off will be a little lost on why it has such a distinct design. From the beginning, id America chose it to be based off a head gasket on a performance engine. As a result, the holes in the case all resemble a head gasket. Not only is it unique, it also makes it look chic.

Camera and flash cutout.

Not only does the head gasket design make the case look stylish, it also allows the camera and flash cutouts to fit in with the overall design. The cutout flows smoothly with the rest of the case and doesn’t look oddly out of place.

 Top view of the case.

The top of the case is widely open. Since the Gasket is a snap on case, it doesn’t cover up the majority of the phone. The power and headphone port are all convenient to access and don’t require too much work to use like other snap on cases.

Volume rocker and lock switch.

Like the top of the case, the volume rocker and lock switch are all exposed. This style of exposure is to be expected since it’s a snap on case. Unfortunately, just because it’s the common way of designing the side, doesn’t make it the best.

Dock connector and speaker.

Not surprisingly, the dock connector port, speaker, and mic all have the minimalist cover from the Gasket case. There shouldn’t be any problem docking the case on most docks because of the thin design and how little the case covers the bottom. Also, on the left side of the Gasket case is id America’s branding.

Front view of the Gasket case.

There isn’t too much to look at from the front. The Gasket case attaches from the sides of the iPhone and keeps itself well hidden for the most part.

Extras:

Durability:

For a snap on case, the Gasket case is outstanding in terms of build quality and it better be for $30. The brushed aluminum must have helped a ton in making the case so strong. It won’t snap easily and the suede inner lining also adds to its integrity. The Gasket case doesn’t scratch easily and since it’s made out of such a firm metal, it should last a long time. It also doesn’t crack from shock which only makes it better. The Gasket is more of a minimalistic case besides the rear design. Consequentially, the screen doesn’t get any protection, although this is no surprise seeing how the case is a snap on. The screen protectors, that are included, will help with any scratches from getting on the iPhone.

Wrap Up:

Pros:

  • Stylish and unique
  • Strong build quality; brushed aluminum
  • Light
Cons:

  • Not much drop protection
  • Buttons and ports are super exposed
