Review: ibattz Mojo Removable Battery Case

There are numerous occasions when finding a computer or wall outlet to recharge your iPhone 4/4S is impossible. Even if the building has outlets, most likely they are not for public use and if you truly need to have your phone on, it makes for a horrid situation. Some may say that fully charging your phone before leaving your house is the right way to go but there’s no telling when and where the iPhone will die and having an external backup power source is more than handy. The ibattz Mojo Removable Battery case is the savior for those unexpected moments when you need to recharge.

Cost: $79.95

Package Contents:

  • ibattz Mojo Removable Battery Case
  • Two 1500 mAH BP-4L Batteries
  • Two Bumpers (Silver and Red)
  • MicroUSB and Sync Cable

Test:

iPhone battery gauge read 20% and then batteries were used to push it to 100% without fully using both.

Design Aspects:

The Mojo Removable Battery case is designed with ease of use, style, and functionality in mind. It allows you to switch batteries to get continuous power. Cases can tend to be frustrating to install or take off and this is especially true for battery cases. However, the Mojo case was anything but frustrating to handle. Another disappointing fact about battery cases is that they are bulky and ugly to look at but the Mojo Removable Battery case doesn’t exactly fall into those categories. The case comes in two colors: matte black and piano white.

Rear lid to swap the batteries.

Since the lid is the main naming reason for the product, it’s a good place to start. At the rear is a lid that covers the slot where the batteries are placed. The lid isn’t difficult or frustrating to work with, a simple push up on the lid will cause it to open and sliding it back down will close it. ibattz provides two batteries and these can be charged individually so they can be swapped in or out at any time when you need it. Each battery is 1500 mAH, so you can get 3000 mAH out of both, which is close to three times the regular iPhone’s battery life. The batteries also weigh a small amount which makes carrying them in and out of the case easy. From this view, it’s also easy to tell that the camera and flash is not obstructed but protected because of the hump.

LED indicators and a button to turn on/off the battery.

ibattz keeps it simple with turning the battery case on or off. To turn it on, a simple push and hold will do it and the same will also turn it off.  The LED lights indicate how much power there is in the current battery.

Bottom part of the case.

On the bottom is where the microUSB cable plugs into. With the cable, syncing and charging is easily done. Both the iPhone and the ibattz batteries can be charged with the cable. Another design aspect to take note of is the two holes on each side of the phone. These holes allow the speaker and the microphone to work.

Side view.

As usual, the case is not a hindrance to the buttons or the lock switch. The bottom volume button cutout is separate from the volume up and lock switch. This helps when the iPhone is in a pocket and the volume buttons need to be accessed, with this, it makes using the right button easier.

Top view.

Both the power and headphone jack are wide open and aren’t made difficult to access by the ibattz case. The top view also shows how flush the iPhone is with the case; you won’t get much protection if you lay the phone face down.

Two bumpers.

With the ibattz Mojo Removable Battery case comes two swappable bumpers. Depending on preference, either bumper can be used. Not only is this a style choice, it also makes installing and removing the case surpassingly easy. With most cases, you just jam the iPhone in but with this system, it makes it a breeze to put on and take the case off.

Extras

Durability:

In terms of how much protection the case provides for the iPhone, it’s adequately well. Of course the screen won’t get much protection, like many cases lack, but the rest of the phone should be protected. Buttons, ports, the switch and camera are all protected by the case because of the lip. Dock connector, speakers, and microphone are covered with the case which provides the most protection.

The ibattz case, itself, is sturdy. There wasn’t much weakness to be noticed, although the bumpers tend to seem weak out of the case but they are strong enough for their purpose and don’t snap easily. Bumpers and batteries can always be changed so if the case is being used for a long term, they can be swapped out quickly and efficiently.

Wrap Up:

Pros:

  • Reasonably light
  • Stylish bumpers which eases install/removable
  • Swappable batteries
  • Extends iPhone battery life nearly thrice
Cons:

  • Indicator lights can be unreliable
  • Adds bulk but not too much
